Kyoto is full of temples and castles but what we really wanted to see is the small stuff, the traditional wooden machiya merchant houses and shops. Gion is Kyoto's most famous geisha district, and of course a tourist Mecca. We walked all over the place all day and, naturally, we took a lot of photos. Here are a few for you to look at.
