10. KAMAKURA - ITS A NICE DAY FOR A WHITE WEDDING

Saturday March 2, 2013 continued...

Our next stop was a Shinto shrine where evidently, weddings are the order of the day on this first Saturday in spring.

This "egg on head" is the equivelent of the western style wedding veil. it is removed shortly after the ceremony, however, if it were to rain on the wedding day, the egg trumps the veil.

But first, lets take a step back and see what's going on here. This is a traditional Shinto wedding. As you can see, Shinto shrines are red and decorative.

Observe the elaborate copper roof detail.

The ceremoy in the pavillion.

The family and friends and hangers on like us.
The wedding band droned on.
The brides maids watch on...

Well, actually that is probablyly not 100% factual because I'm making most of this stuff up as I go along. Best not to quote me. This is the Internet after all.

Where were we? Oh yes, with a bit of help from mum and the official hairdresser its off with the egg hat.
A quick touch up from the official hairdresser.
Observe the elaborate hair detail.
Almost there. Some more tweaking from mum.
More tweakers patiently waiting in line.

And finally, we are good to go. Que photographers. Looks like hubby's in the navy. And happy chap he is too.

Here is another happy couple.

The proud groom and the smiling bride. A little touch of Mrs Bucket going on there.
It might sound a bit "tongue in cheek" but we were happy for the stream of newlyweds riding away in their rickshaws, soaking up the perfect spring wedding day.

But what are the photographers so intent on???

???

Oh... Is that all???

Another elaborate roof.

Looking down on the wedding pavillion from the shrine.
And here we find a future bride deep in thought about the ideal husband and her very own egg hat...
