USA 24. THE E. CLARKE AND JULIA ARNOLD HOUSE

Wednesday, September 17, 2014 continued

Having just spent the morning visiting the great Taliesin, and ranted on in numerous blogs, it's pretty obvious that we love a lot of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture. As much as we love the famous monuments like Taliesin, Taliesin West and Falling Water, there is somthing we love even more. "Usonian Houses" such as the Pope-Leighey House in Virginia that we visited in 2009 and the Zimmerman House in New Hampshire visited in 2012.

On our trip home from Taliesin our hosts took us to see the E. Clarke and Julia Arnold House in Columbus Wisconsin, 1955-6. (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._Clarke_and_Julia_Arnold_House). Unlike so many FLW homes we have seen this one is special because it is not a museum. It is still an actual residence. What is more, it is occupied by the daughter and son-inlaw.

Since this is a private home our intention was to stop by briefly and take a few "discrete" photos through the car window...
However, it turned out that the householder, who was mowing his front lawn, came and asked what we were doing. Could have been very embarrassing but he graciously proceeded to invite us to come inside and tour the home... And even take photos... And blog!!!
The back terrace.

The living room.

Dining room.
And kitchen.

The low ceiling, narrow passageway lined with storage cupboards.
Making ourselves at home. What a treat to be in pivoted inside a real live working FLW house... Thank you very much Henry.

Henry and Mary demonstrated once again how hospitable Wisconsinites tend to be!

We had a wonderful day touring Taliesin with you both, and how nice it was to close out our day with an amazing FLW house in our little town of Columbus!
