NEPAL 11a. COME AND SEE BHAKTAPUR

Friday April 25, 2014, NEPAL

This young lady is a Newar. She and about 300,000 others live in the 3rd largest city in east corner of the Kathmandu Valley (20 minutes from Bethel according to Google maps, over an hour in the Ring Road traffic in reality) in the anctient city of Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artwork. It was the capital of Nepal until the second half of the 15th century.

We went for a 3 hour self guided tour and, guess what, we took a lot of photos. Would you like to see what we saw?

Leaving behind the hot dusty dusty streets of Kathmandu, we entered another world.

A world of long winding narrow alleys.

Friendly people who did not appear to be overly concerned by our presence.

Sitting on the street outside their homes, knitting and talking.
This is a rooster on a rope.
Though it is warm in the sun a cooler breeze comes from many of the doors and window into the lane.
They generally responded positively when we asked "photo?" And didn't ask for rupee... That's a nice smile.
It mightn't look like it but she is smiling too.
The thinker; "Why do you crazies want my photo?"
To be continued...
