So, where would one shop in Cusco? Well there is a modern department store and supermarket down town which we found sells most of the items and ingredients one might find in the West. But there is a catch, western goods cost western prices. For those who wish to save on the weekly shopping bill there are plenty of alternatives. One of the most famous is the San Pedro market.
So let's go in and see what we can see...
So let's go in and see what we can see...
There's brightly coloured Peruvian textiles.
All manner of fruit and vegetables.
Flowers and much more.
Many locals enjoy the wide variety of freshly cooked local dishes.
STOP RIGHT THERE!
Before you browse the next few photographs, this is a WARNING TO OUR VEGETARIAN FRIENDS and those who think that meat comes in hermetically sealed packages from pristine supermarkets. Yes, we are about to parouse THE MEAT MARKET. Some viewers may be disturbed.
Not sure what that is.
But this one is fairly obvious.
Finally some vegan friendly offerings, black maize.
And these look like cow snouts.
And your donkey snouts...
And a warning to my VEGAN FRIENDS. The next scene is THE CHEESE MARKET!
I tried to warn you vegans...
Finally some vegan friendly offerings, black maize.
Dried fruits and nuts.
We were very happy to find one of our sisters, and her daughter, at her avocado stall.
This is Betsy. It's not her real name but it seems to fit. Alexandra thought her hat looked so good that she bought it.
If you would like to see more offerings at the market check out the following link;
At the end of the day we bused down town to meet our new friends from Sweden.
And to try a local dish at a typical family restaurant. This is Lomo Saltado. Basically a delicious beef stir fry.
Thank you Andreas and Jasmin for a memorable evening.
