12. RHODE ISLAND "THE OCEAN STATE"

Wednesday December 26

Meet our new Rhode Island friends,

Barbara and Doug

This looks like the perfect place to write a blog
Their home

Now, you may know Rhode Island from films like High Society or The Great Gatsby which were set in Newport. Or perhaps you know that Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis and John F. Kennedy were married at St. Mary's church.
Come on a quick tour of the southern part of the island
The beach... A tad chilly for swimming
The choice...

Purgatory Chasm

A gaggle of Canadian geese flying north for some reason

Newport Rhode Island is also famous for its mansions, the homes or summer homes of the 18th and 19th century über rich. People like the Vanderbilt's who had several summer cottages where they might spend 2 months of the year.

We took the Cliff Walk along the coast to get a steep peek at their back yards. Not that we are jealous or anything, who wants all that cleaning?

Ochre Court Mansion

Vineland Mansion

Breakers Mansion named after the tops of the waves breaking nearby

A typical regular house with a gambrel roof
Up the garden path
Don't forget to shut the little gate
An eyebrow window
Oh, thats not a mansion, its Fort Adams
An Eskimo
The original home of the America's Cup but not even a row boat in the water at this time of year...
A nice little hotel
Cosy interior
The famous Adirondack chairs
And lunch in a little restaurant in Newport, clam chowder, very nice
Turkey and chicken sandwiches

Still an active fishing industry

Thank you Doug and Margret for making our stay in your beautiful part of the world so warm and cosy... Not to mention the great food and conversation,,, and for touring us all over the island. And thank you Kim for introducing us. We are so spoiled.
